George Carlin Dies at Age 71

George CarlinI was saddened to learn that George Carlin, the provocatively hilarious comedian, author and sometimes actor passed away earlier today of heart failure. He reportedly entered the Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica early this morning for chest pains and around 6pm his heart failed him.

Carlin is most known for his edgy comedy, distaste for euphemisms, and in particular his skit “Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television”. He was the author of three best selling books: When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?, Napalm and Silly Putty, and Brain Droppings, a Grammy award winner, and funny as hell. Some people might recall him as Mr. Conductor on the children’s show Shiny Time Station (Thomas the Tank Engine).

I can’t say enough about his comedy. I’ve spent a lot of time listening to his many comedy specials and it has had a profound impact on the way I perceive things. He was a comedian who proved that the best comedy is the kind that shatters everyday conventions and speaks out against the status quo.

He will be truly missed.

Check out some of Carlin’s best.
